Program Information
The Connect Center for Youth in collaboration with several other organizations have created an excellent after school resource for students in middle and high school residing in the capital region.
Students will have the opportunity to learn skills like beat making, audio production, branding, broadcasting, digital programming, acting, public speaking and so much more.
Schedule
This program is scheduled to run every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 9/26/2023 to 12/14/2023.
This program meets three days a week:
Tuesday: 3-5 PM
BPM LESSONS:
BPM is a dynamic and hands-on experience dedicated to teaching beat making, digital audio production, and audio engineering to aspiring musicians and producers. Designed for students of all skill levels, this program provides a creative and innovative environment where they can explore the world of music production. Through expert-led workshops and access to state-of-the-art equipment and software, participants will develop the skills necessary to craft their own beats, produce high-quality digital tracks, and master the art of audio engineering. Unleash your musical potential and create the sounds you've always dreamed of!
WARP ZONE: *starting October 24th*
Warp Zone is an immersive opportunity for students interested in the exciting world of competitive gaming. Beyond honing their gaming skills, participants will delve into the esports industry, learning about branding, marketing, streaming, broadcasting, and event management. Our curriculum equips students with valuable insights and practical knowledge that can kickstart their esports careers. Through hands-on coaching sessions and networking opportunities, students will have the chance to meet local college coaches and industry professionals, gaining valuable advice and connections to help them pursue their esports passions. Level up your gaming expertise and explore the thriving esports ecosystem!
F.L.O.S.S.:
Our after-school F.L.O.S.S. program, short for "Free Learning of Open Source Systems," offers an engaging educational experience for students interested in the world of computers. Participants will explore the intricacies of computer hardware, gaining a deep understanding of the components that power these machines. Additionally, they will learn about the benefits and applications of open source software and operating systems. As a special bonus, at the end of the program, each student will receive the computer they've worked on, completely free of cost, empowering them to continue their digital journey at home. Embark on a path to computer literacy and open-source exploration!
ACTING WITH AARON
Acting with Aaron is an exciting opportunity for students to unleash their creativity and boost their confidence. Through fun and interactive exercises, students will learn the art of improvisational acting, developing quick thinking, adaptability, and teamwork. They will explore various theatrical games and techniques to enhance their improvisation skills, allowing them to think on their feet and create spontaneous scenes and characters. By the end of the program, students will have gained a strong foundation in improvisational theater, improved their public speaking abilities, and built lasting friendships with fellow aspiring actors, all while having a blast on stage. Join us for a journey into the world of spontaneous storytelling and theatrical expression!
CHILDREN AT THE WELL *starting October 31st*
Children at the Well is a storytelling program that connects tomorrow’s leaders through storytelling. This twelve week program will empower students to explore what is most important to them and then find the words and skills to share it effectively. Learn storytelling and hone your theater and public speaking skills all at the same time!
HOMEWORK HELP *drop in*
Our after-school homework help program is designed to provide students with the support they need to excel academically. It's a flexible, drop-in program where students can receive assistance on a first-come, first-served basis. Our dedicated tutors and mentors are available to help with a wide range of subjects and assignments, ensuring that students receive the guidance and clarification they require. Whether it's math, science, language arts, or any other subject, our program aims to empower students with the tools and knowledge to tackle their homework confidently. Join us and let us be your academic support system outside the classroom!

CRAFTING FOR SELF CARE

FIRE SQUAD
Fire Squad is a one of a kind hot sauce club where members will unravel the secrets behind crafting sensational hot sauces, blending science, technology, engineering, arts, and math. This after-school S.T.E.A.M. based culinary program transforms students into hot sauce masters! They'll embark on a thrilling journey of taste experimentation, learning to balance flavors, and creating their unique signature sauces. Fire Squad members will leave each session with not only newfound culinary skills but also a sense of belonging to a select group of flavor enthusiasts. Join us for an electrifying and tasteful adventure that's sure to ignite your passion for S.T.E.A.M. and culinary arts!

LEGO LEAGUE
Our after-school LEGO program is inspired by the First LEGO League, offering an exciting and educational experience for young engineers and problem solvers. Students will immerse themselves in the world of robotics, creativity, and teamwork as they build and program their own LEGO robots to complete a series of exciting challenges. Guided by expert mentors, they'll develop essential STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) skills while fostering critical thinking and collaboration. YOUNG FUTURES *starting October 5th*
Young Futures Art and Financial Literacy program is a unique fusion of creativity and financial education designed to empower young minds. Students will explore their artistic talents through a variety of engaging projects, while also gaining practical knowledge about money management, budgeting, and financial planning. Our expert instructors will guide participants through the world of art, helping them unleash their creativity, while also providing valuable insights into financial responsibility and smart financial decision-making. CAN CODE -Coding for Gaming and Web Development *starting October 5th*
Coding for Gaming and Web Development is the perfect opportunity for young tech enthusiasts to dive into the world of web development and programming. Students will learn the fundamentals of coding with HTML and CSS, enabling them to design and create their own web pages from scratch. Additionally, they'll explore the world of game development with Scratch, where they can unleash their creativity and build interactive games and animations. Through hands-on projects and expert guidance, participants will develop valuable coding skills that can open doors to exciting future opportunities in the tech industry. The Can Code communities bring an enriching coding experience that sparks innovation and creativity!
